C Sims Race Report at Pala Raceway

March 12, 2017 – Pala, CA – I was super stoked to race round 2 of the DIRT Series at Pala Raceway. I had the opportunity to practice out on the race course the day before the race, so I had a pretty good feel for the track. My class was race 8 in the line-up for the day. I headed down to the start line and picked my positon. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the start, the line was full and I had to park myself in the middle of the pack. As the green flag dropped, I got off the line as quickly as I could, but fell fourth in line. I knew I had some work to do. I was able to pass the third place car quickly. I battled with first and second place on lap two. As we were coming off of a sweeping turn and down a hill, first place broke as was out of the race. I stayed on the first place car, but was unable to get to the checkers first. I finished the first moto in 2nd place.

I went down to line-up earlier for the second moto to get a better starting position. I was completely focused and determined. As the green flag dropped, I took off and fell second in line. I was able to pass the first place car in the first lap. I raced hard and fast. I stayed in the first place spot and increased my lead with every lap I drove. As I crossed the finish line, I took the 1st place spot! It felt really awesome to be on top of the box for the first time in the UTV Open 800 class! This first place finish also meant I finished 1st overall for the day!
