SIMS Race Report San Diego County Fair

June 27, 2017- Del Mar, CA- When I saw the advertisement for the WGAS Motorsports/Black Rhino Performance SXS time trial race at the San Diego County Fair, I knew I had to check it out.  The fair is right in my backyard!  They were offering only two classes on race day- 900 production and under & 1,000 turbo/unlimited.  I would run in the 900 class and put my Polaris RZR 800 to the test.  They had a 16 and up age limit, but after talking to WGAS ahead of time, they cleared me to race even though I am only 13!  I was stoked!SD Fair 12

On race day, we arrived at the fair and got checked in.  There were seven cars in my class, and I would be #7 in line to run.  Because it was time trials, we were running one at a time on the course against the clock.  They set up the first race in the afternoon as a qualifier and the evening race was the main event.  When it was time, I lined up outside of the stadium entrance and waited for my turn.  They let us do one practice lap to get a feel for the course.  After running that first lap, I was pumped.  It was a great course with awesome jumps!  We lined up again to run our two qualifying laps.  My first lap time came in at 38.495 seconds and after round 1, I was running in 3rd place!  We lined up again and I knew I could shave some time off my next lap.  As the green flag dropped, I took off and raced as fast as I could around the course and over the jumps.  As I came to a stop at the end, I came in with a lap time of 37.882 seconds!  I was still running in 3rd after round 2, and I got ready to move to the main event that evening.SD Fair 10

We would be running 3 laps in the evening and I had some ideas to try to shave some more time off of my laps.  We got ready and lined up outside of the stadium again to run the main.  We were in the same race order as earlier in the day, so the other 6 cars ran their laps, and then it was my turn to go.  I took off out of the gate!  I raced around the course and came in with a lap time of 37.556 seconds.  I had improved again!  I waited to run lap two and knew I could do better.  I took off again, and I clocked a 36.991 second lap time!  My third lap in the main and final lap for the day was the best by far.  I knew the course well and I flew out of the gate.  I clocked a 36.188 second lap time!  I was beyond pumped and excited!  I was able to improve my lap times by 2.307 seconds over the course of the day, I was the youngest racer at the event, and I placed 3rd in my class!    SD Fair 13
